Hi! I’m Jess and I’m a Clinical Psychologist.

Can you tell me a bit about your background?

I work mostly in a busy secondary care NHS Children & Young People’s Service. Here, I provide comprehensive neurodevelopmental and cognitive assessments for children with neurodivergent profiles (e.g. ADHD and Autism). I also provide therapeutic support for children and young people struggling with their mental health.

My previous NHS roles have given me a wealth of experience of working with a range of mental health difficulties, including: depression, anxiety, disordered eating, OCD, developmental trauma and psychosis. I have worked across the lifespan from the very young through to older adults.

I am passionate about clinical psychology and strive to maintain a connection with new research that helps us understand more about mental health and how to support people to feel their best. I love that my job challenges me to learn and grow.

What will it be like when I meet you?

I am a values-led clinician- first and foremost. This means I am motivated by core values of compassion, connection and hope. I hope this means I am quite easy to get along with!

Our first meeting is a great chance to get to know one another. If you feel comfortable, it can be a good time to think a little bit about what brings you to therapy and what it is you would like to work on.

Perhaps you have some hopes for therapy? Maybe not- we can figure that out together!

Our partnership is very important- together we bring a range of skills and experiences. We will work together to understand your experiences and explore ways to promote positive change.

Therapy can, at times, be challenging. But I believe the strength of our relationship and the guiding principles of our shared plan will help us navigate this.

What types of therapy do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?

I draw on a range of approaches and schools of thought when working with people. Humans are complex and necessitate a flexible and integrative approach.

The primary therapies I utilise are: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectic Behavioural Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy and Systemic Practice. I am interested in preventative wellbeing practices and weave these principles through traditional mental health practice.

I work with children, adults and families presenting with a range of mental health challenges. Problems may be relatively recent/transient, or perhaps they have been around for a while.

What do you enjoy outside of psychology?

I spend lots of my time outdoors- in the sea, in the hills or walking my whippet. I practice yoga regularly, I run less regularly… I drink too much coffee. I read every day- right now I am reading “The Art of Happiness” by the Dalai Lama and Howard Cutler.
