Hi! I’m Anjulie and I’m a Health Psychologist.

Can you tell me a bit about you and how you became a Health Psychologist?

After graduating from my undergraduate degree at Aston University, Birmingham, I took a leap of faith and moved to Dubai, where I worked in an administrative role for a law firm for a couple of years. I felt something was missing and I needed more from my career.

With a burning desire to get back into Health Psychology, I moved back to the UK to further my studies. I am so glad that I did, as I believe Health Psychology is my calling! I love what I do and feel so passionate about helping individuals with their experiences in relation to their health.

I have had experience of working with a wide variety of clients and have worked in a diverse range of areas, including, paediatric burns, diabetes, medicine & surgery and cancer psychology.I love working as a Health Psychologist and find it extremely rewarding to help individuals through their difficulties. I love that my job allows me to get to know people from all walks of life.

What would it be like to meet me?

It is so important to me that the individual I am sat with, feels safe and comfortable and therefore I will do my absolute best to help you feel at ease. In order for us to work well together, a strong foundation of trust is so important.

To begin with, we will spend some time getting to know each other and then together, we can think about what may help you move forward. My aim is to offer a warm, compassion, safe space for you to feel that you can talk to me.

What types of therapy do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?

I recognise that everyone is different and therefore each approach is tailored specifically to my clients. I use an integrated approach where I combine elements of different therapies and adapt my approach according to my clients’ needs. I mainly use a combination of; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and third-wave Cognitive Behavioural Therapy modalities (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy & Compassion Focussed Therapy), Solution Focussed Therapy (SFT) and Motivational Interviewing.

I have experience in supporting individuals with adjustment to long term conditions, such as cancer, diabetes, heart-related conditions, sleep issues and burn injuries. I have worked with individuals who have health anxiety, and supported clients through decision-making in relation to treatments.

I have also worked with clients who have terminal illness. I have experience in helping individuals in relation to behaviour change, for example those struggling to implement healthy eating or exercise behaviours into their lives.

What are you interests outside of psychology?

Aside from work, I enjoy running, boxing and circuit classes! I love to spend time with my family and friends. I also love to travel, see new places and experience new cultures.
