Hi, I’m Ella and I am an Assistant Psychologist.
Ella Matlow
Assistant Psychologist
Can you tell me a little bit about your background?
Hi, I’m Ella! I’m an Assistant Psychologist at The Oak Tree Practice. I’ve always been fascinated by understanding why people think, feel, and behave the way they do, and I’m passionate about helping people navigate life’s challenges using compassionate, evidence-based approaches.
I completed my BSc in Natural Sciences, majoring in Psychology, at the University of Birmingham, including a study abroad year at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. More recently, I completed my MSc in Child Development at University College London (UCL), graduating with Distinction. Throughout my studies, I’ve developed a particular interest in child and adolescent mental health, neurodevelopment and psychological wellbeing across the lifespan.
Alongside my academic training, I’ve worked as a Mental Health Coach, supporting adults experiencing common mental health difficulties including anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia, procrastination, low self-esteem, and life transitions. I completed intensive training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, Graded Exposure, and CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I), using these evidence-based approaches to help clients develop practical coping strategies and work towards meaningful goals.
Alongside this, I’ve volunteered in a range of settings supporting both children and older adults. These roles have included providing one-to-one behavioural support for neurodiverse children, working with individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease, and leading youth programmes focused on confidence, wellbeing and personal development. These experiences have strengthened my ability to build trusting relationships and adapt to individual needs.
At The Oak Tree Practice, I support both the clinical and administrative aspects of the service, helping ensure clients receive the right support while contributing to assessments, service development and psychological care as part of the wider team.
What are your interests outside of psychology?
Outside of work, I enjoy keeping active through the gym, skiing and spending time outdoors. I also love travelling and recently spent six months solo travelling, which taught me a great deal about resilience, adaptability and connecting with people from different backgrounds. When I’m not travelling, you’ll usually find me reading, trying new restaurants with friends or planning my next adventure.
