Hi! I’m Naima and I’m a Clinical Psychologist.
Can you tell me a bit about your background?
Thank you for finding my profile. I am a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC and am CBT Accredited with the BABCP. With 10 years’ experience working in the NHS and I have clinical experience across public, private, and charitable sectors.
I have completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and specialised in trauma and community psychology. I have experience working with individuals experiencing a range of emotional difficulties including anxiety, low mood, attachment difficulties and traumatic reactions. I ensure my practice honours cultural heritage, lived experiences, and work to empower clients through a collaborative approach.
Using compassion, collaboration, curiosity, and empathy, I have worked with individuals across the lifespan addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, and bereavement. Using these approaches, I have supported clients who feel stuck in repeated patterns or want help identifying their feelings and behaviours.
What will it be like when I meet you?
Starting or returning to therapy can be a big step. I enjoy providing a non-judgemental, warm, and empathetic space where clients can feel safely challenged and empowered. I believe in understanding the individuals I work with, integrating different approaches based on my client’s needs to improve understanding for themselves and potentially others in their lives.
When meeting for the first time, it is important to allow space to get a better sense of each other and whether I would be the right therapist for you. I would encourage a space to highlight what your hopes for therapy are, and how we might be able to work towards these goals. When this is unclear, I can support you during your therapy journey to make sense of your difficulties and what steps can be taken to make positive changes in your life.
What types of therapy do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?
I have a background in a range of therapies and am trained to use a range of evidence-based approaches, namely Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy, as well as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).
I draw upon attachment theory and systemic approaches to help understand the wider context around a person’s difficulties. My clinical training ensures I take an integrative approach to therapy, matching the individual to the theories and tools from the wide range of therapies I am experienced in using.
I specialise in working with individuals and families with longstanding mood difficulties, emotional dysregulation, grief, trauma, relationship/attachment difficulties, anxiety, and OCD. I stand firmly against all forms of discrimination and prejudice and believe in dignity and respect for all individuals, regardless of their personal characteristics and circumstances.
What do you enjoy doing outside of psychology?
I love to relax by cooking, capturing the world through photographs, and watering my 60 plants. I value spending time with friends and family, and am the happiest when sharing food, travelling, and hanging out with a dog.
