Hi, I’m Molly, a HCPC registered Counselling Psychologist!

What therapies do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?

I’m a person-centred therapist at heart, which means I provide the core conditions of person-centred therapy – empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard. This means I show my clients compassion and understanding, I’m completely authentic, and I accept my clients as they are, without any judgement.

I take an integrative approach, which means I draw from therapeutic models depending on the needs of my clients. I integrate aspects of cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), compassion-focused therapy (CFT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), cognitive analytic therapy (CAT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

During my career, I have supported individuals experiencing stress and burnout, low mood, anxiety, relationship difficulties, attachment difficulties, trauma-related symptoms, emotion dysregulation, chronic health conditions, adjustment difficulties, and grief and loss. I’ve also supported both young people and adults with neurodiversity.

I have worked with individuals of all ages starting from age 4, across the NHS, charities and the independent sector, in mental health and general hospitals, schools, children’s and adults residential care, and online clinics.

What would it be like to meet me?

During our initial sessions, we will start to develop a therapeutic relationship, which I believe is a key ingredient for successful therapy. Once you feel ready, we will collaboratively explore the reasons for you coming to therapy and help you to identify your therapy goals. Starting therapy can feel daunting, so please be reassured that we will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Once you feel ready, we will develop a psychological formulation together, which is a shared understanding of the problem/s that have brought you to therapy. This may involve exploring your current problem/s, thoughts, and feelings, as well as understanding why your difficulties developed and what may have kept them going. Once we have developed an understanding of what you’re experiencing, we can think together about how to best support you in therapy.

Your therapy sessions could take an unstructured counselling approach, where I listen to you, we explore your experiences and difficulties together, and you gain insight and self-awareness. Alternatively, therapy sessions could be more structured, where we set agendas and focus on specific worksheets, resources, skills, and psycho education. You can let me know which approach you may prefer, or if you’re unsure, we can figure it out together.

What are your interests outside of psychology?

Outside of work I love going out for walks in the countryside and spending time at the seaside, both in Yorkshire and abroad!
