Hi! I’m Lizzie and I’m a Counselling Psychologist.

Can you tell me a bit about your background?

I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at York St John University, where I first discovered my passion for understanding people’s experiences and the transformative potential of therapy. I later returned to complete my Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology.

Throughout my training and career, I have worked across a range of settings, including the NHS, third-sector organisations, education, and private practice. These experiences have given me the opportunity to support children, adolescents, and adults with a wide variety of emotional and psychological difficulties.

Working with people from diverse backgrounds has reinforced the importance of adapting therapy to the individual. I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach, so I tailor my work to each person’s unique needs, goals, and pace, creating a collaborative and compassionate therapeutic space.

What can I expect in the first session?

Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin building a therapeutic relationship. My priority is that you feel comfortable and able to move at a pace that feels right for you. You are always in control of what you choose to share, and there is no pressure to discuss anything before you feel ready.

During this initial session, we’ll explore what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain from our work together. I’ll ask some questions to help me understand your current experiences, challenges, and any relevant background so that I can begin to understand how best to support you. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about therapy or the way I work.

Some people come to therapy with clear goals or specific changes they want to make, while others simply know that something doesn’t feel quite right but aren’t yet sure what they need. Both are completely valid starting points. Together, we’ll develop a deeper understanding of your needs over time.

I aim to provide a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to explore your experiences. I also recognise that life continues alongside therapy, and your needs may change as we work together. We’ll regularly check in to ensure our sessions remain focused on what feels most relevant and helpful to you.

What therapies do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?

I work with both young people (12+) and adults and have supported individuals experiencing a wide range of difficulties including:

  • ADHD
  • Autism
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stress / Burnout
  • Low self-esteem
  • Chronic pain / Long-term health conditions

I am particularly passionate about helping individuals with neurodiverse presentations and the challenges that can be associated with this.

My approach is integrative, meaning that I tailor the therapy to you, drawing on a variety of different evidence-based therapies including techniques from cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical-behaviour therapy (DBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

What are your interests outside of psychology?

When I’m not working, I enjoy getting out for walks or practicing yoga and pilates. I love trying out new restaurants and food both close to home and when travelling. Baking and anything crafty or creative are great passions of mine too!
