Hi! I’m Amani and I’m a Clinical Psychologist.
Can you tell me a bit about your background?
I decided to become a psychologist quite early on in my life. I’ve always found people’s stories interesting and wanted to support people to reflect on and readjust the way they think about their life stories.
I have many years of experience working with people with varying difficulties which has been a priceless opportunity. I completed my doctoral training at The University of East London and I currently work with children and families within the NHS
What will it be like when I meet you?
Our therapeutic relationship is the most important thing to me. I like to create a warm and open space for us to explore your needs and your goals for therapy.
There is no pressure to have that all figured out in the first session. It’s okay to be unsure about what you would like to focus on, that’s something we can figure out together. I will be interested in hearing about your experiences, relationships, important parts of your identity and your strengths to help get a full picture of who you are.
What types of therapy do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?
I mostly use CBT, CFT, narrative therapy and systemic therapy. I like to use these approaches together so that the therapy can be tailored to the person I am working with. I can support young people and adults with difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, stress, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties and traumatic life experiences.
What are your interests outside of psychology?
I’m a big foodie. I love trying new restaurants, going to food markets and baking. I’m in the gym most days as I really prioritise my health and fitness. I also love travelling and I’m always keen to learn about new cultures (especially the food- wow, this is a full circle moment).
