Hi! I’m Alria and I’m a Clinical Psychologist.

Can you tell me a bit about your background?

I have always been drawn to hearing people’s stories and the way we make sense of our experiences. I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Essex and have since worked across the NHS and a range of private settings. I currently work as a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist in the NHS, supporting adults and families navigating the psychological impact of serious health conditions.

Over the years I have worked across a range of different settings and populations. Through these experiences I have learned that understanding someone as a whole person, including their values, background and the contexts that have shaped them, matters just as much as understanding the difficulties that have brought them to therapy.

What can I expect in the first session?

My hope is that you will leave the first session feeling genuinely heard. I aim to bring warmth, curiosity and an interest in who you are. I view the first few sessions as a space to start building a trusting relationship.

We will go at a pace that feels comfortable to you and work together to decide what would be most helpful to explore and which aspects of yourself you would like to bring into the therapeutic space.

What therapies do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?

I work with a range of difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, health challenges, and perinatal mental health. I have worked in various mental and physical health settings in the NHS, supporting adults, children and families. I also have experience supporting neurodivergent (including autism and ADHD) people across all age groups.

I draw on various approaches, such as narrative, cognitive and compassion-focused therapy, and integrate different ideas flexibly depending on what fits best for you. I understand that everyone is different and my aim is to create a space where you feel seen and understood while we work towards your goals.

What are your interests outside of psychology?

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I try not to take life too seriously, and you’ll probably find me watching a good comedy show or binge watching something on Netflix, and I’m always willing to take up an opportunity to travel.
