Hi! I’m Shradha and I’m a Counselling Psychologist.
Can you tell me a bit about your background?
I chose to follow psychology because I consider our relationships and how we share ourselves with others is hugely important. For the last eight years I have had the opportunity to work with individuals from many backgrounds, all holding different life experiences; both within and outside the NHS.
My personal background and experiences also mean that I am very aware of the impact of culture/religion on mental health, and how stigma can sometimes make it hard for us to speak about our difficulties, or even put our own needs first. Because of this, I will always try to create a space where you can speak openly about your experiences.
What would it be like to meet you?
Throughout our time together, I aim to offer a collaborative, safe, empathic and non-judgemental space for you to express yourself freely and feel understood.
One of the first, and most important things I believe it would be important for us to do is to get to know each other and develop our therapeutic relationship. After introducing myself and the ways in which I work, I will support you to talk about what has brought you to therapy and what you would like to gain from this space. Moving forward, at a pace that works for you, we will explore your current experiences, whilst touching on areas like your relationships and the impact of culture, religion and/or social contexts. I am also particularly interested in your strengths and the ways in which you cope.
What therapies do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?
I work integratively, allowing me to creatively and flexibly tailor therapy to your needs. I believe this is important, especially as we all have many different identities!
I work using a range of therapies, including, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Dialectical-Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy, Humanistic Therapy and Systemic Therapy.
I am experienced in supporting adults (18+) who have experienced a range of difficulties, including, but not limited to, depression, OCD, anxiety, low self-esteem, social anxiety, health anxiety, anger, stress, phobias and relationship difficulties. Through my training, I have also been able to gain specialist knowledge of working with HIV, sexuality, sexual wellbeing and sexual problems.
What do you enjoy outside of psychology?
I really enjoy spending time with friends/family, travelling, hiking and getting creative! I also love music and baking, and will never pass up an opportunity to try something new.
