Can you tell me a bit about your background?
Goodness, I’ve had so many experiences so far. I worked as a youth leader, tutor and mentor to young people of all ages and backgrounds in London, even ran a free weekend revision confidence school and have since worked with older adults, adults, young people and children, individuals with learning disabilities and those coping with trauma and neurological injuries. I have worked across many settings such as hospitals, outpatient clinics and schools.
What is a clinical psychologist?
A clinical psychologist is someone who is specially trained in working with people going through difficult experiences in their lives and those with mental health difficulties.
Clinical psychologists have completed a doctoral degree and so have a breadth of skills to work with individuals, couples or families. We use well researched and effective therapies such as Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), systemic therapy, psychodynamic therapy, behavioural interventions and are able to adapt these to your specific needs. We also carry out assessments of thinking skills such as memory where there is neurological illness and put together strategies around this.
What will it be like when I meet you?
It’s so helpful for me to get to know more about you, what’s happening now for you and the experiences you’ve had so far. Having your own space to talk and think about this is so important. As we work together, we can consider how to get the best out of therapy to help you to overcome the difficulties you’re facing and work on what’s important to you.
What therapies do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?
I have expertise and training in a variety of different therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Systemic therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy amongst others. These therapies are proven to be effective for a range of difficulties and I have used these with anxiety/panic, low mood, anger, stress, reduced confidence and self-esteem, bereavement, difficulties with relationships or adapting to new situations and coping with long term health conditions. I have worked with individuals, couples and families and will work in whichever way is best for you.
What are your interests outside of psychology?
I really enjoy my work but I also enjoy music and going to live events and concerts (from the BBC Proms to Beyoncé and Childish Gambino . I like watching and attending sports events (Wimbledon, Formula 1, World Cup, Olympics), house parties with family and friends and laughing a lot! I’m currently enjoying several whodunnit series on a widely-known streaming service with award-winning shows.
