Dr  Laurence Hasson

Clinical Psychologist

Hi! I’m Laurence. I’m a Chartered Clinical Psychologist.

I am a registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and the British Psychological Society (BPS).

How did I become a Clinical Psychologist?

Originally from London, I studied BSc Psychology and MSc Neuropsychology at the University of Bristol. I worked as an Assistant Psychologist at Stoke Mandeville Spinal Injuries Unit, and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. I trained as a Clinical Psychologist at the University of Hertfordshire. My doctoral thesis was on post-diagnostic support for children and young people on the autism spectrum. I currently work in the NHS in Hertfordshire in Autism Assessment and Diagnosis. I am also a Trustee of the Add-vance charity in Hertfordshire.

What would it be like to meet you?

One of the most important things to me is being genuine and honest in order to form a true connection with the people I am trying to help. Therefore I am always myself in the clinic room; I have a relaxed style and like to use humour where appropriate. I work flexibly with clients and offer a non-judgemental space where people feel listened to.

What therapies do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?

I am an integrative practitioner, drawing from a number of psychological therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), systemic therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), compassion-focused therapy and solution-focused therapy. I help people with a variety of difficulties, including anxiety, phobias, PTSD and complex trauma. I also specialise in assessing and diagnosing Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and providing support to people who have autism.

What do you enjoy outside of psychology?

In my spare time I like to sing, and I sing in a barbershop quartet and chorus based in London. When I am not singing, I like seeing musicals, watching American football, and eating Chinese food. I also have a rescue dog called Ella who is adorable.
